Seemless Integration of Mitsubishi Electric Centralised Controllers at Westgate Park

The Challenge

Acorn Integrated Systems, a valued System Integrator, approached Synapsys Solutions with a challenge at the Westgate Park site. They required a solution to interface multiple Mitsubishi Electric Centralised controllers with a Niagara platform via BACnet. Rather than opting for our IQ4XNC solution—limited to simple indoor units—we recommended our Procon MelcoSIP+, designed for broader compatibility with Mitsubishi Electric systems.

Procon MelcoSIP+

Synapsys Solutions developed the Procon MelcoSIP+ to seamlessly integrate Mitsubishi Electric Centralised controllers— including AE200, EW50, AG150, and G50—into BMS, IoT, and SCADA platforms.

Unlike traditional options, the Procon MelcoSIP+ can expose values from a variety of device types, including VRF Multi Split, Lossnay, and Ecodan systems connected to the Mitsubishi Electric AC (M-Net) network.

For this project, Acorn Integrated Systems required integration for three Mitsubishi Electric G50 Centralised controllers. We provided one Procon MelcoSIP+ product. The Procon MelcoSIP+ Melco driver connects to a Mitsubishi Centralised controller via IP, supporting up to 50 devices
per Mitsubishi Electric AC (M-Net) network.

Implementation and Challenges

Before deployment, Acorn Integrated Systems worked alongside our team to verify compatibility with the Mitsubishi Electric G50. After confirming the IP address configuration, we established communication between the Mitsubishi G50 controllers and the Procon MelcoSIP+, successfully mapping each device in the M-Net network.

During commissioning, some room temperature values failed to display
correctly. Using the Melco map discovery feature, we confirmed that the driver configuration matched the devices listed in the Mitsubishi Electric Centralised controller. However, some indoor unit addresses were missing or did not follow Mitsubishi’s grouping rules.

To speed up the commissioning process, the attending engineer requested a streamlined method. As part of our continuous improvement efforts, the
Synapsys Solutions R&D team introduced Copy/Paste & Duplicate features. These features allowed engineers to replicate device addresses quickly, significantly reducing commissioning time.

Final Adjustments & Results

Towards the end of the project, the Mitsubishi Electric G50 controllers were
upgraded to AE200 controllers, requiring another round of verification. Initially, communication with the Mitsubishi controllers failed, but after troubleshooting, we found that the AE200 controllers had different IP addresses than those configured in the Melco driver settings. Once  corrected, integration resumed smoothly.

A final hurdle was resolving failed values on the Niagara platform’s BACnet server. This was quickly fixed by enabling the Override BACnet option, ensuring a stable data flow.

Ongoing Improvements

Since the project’s completion, our R&D team has further enhanced the Copy/Paste and Duplicate features within the BACnet server driver. These updates allow engineers to:

• Use spreadsheets to quickly map Mitsubishi points to BACnet objects
• Duplicate BACnet devices and objects across multiple virtual BACnet
  servers

Thanks to the flexibility and advanced capabilities of the Procon MelcoSIP+,
Acorn Integrated Systems successfully integrated Mitsubishi Electric controllers into the Niagara platform at Westgate Park. The project highlighted the importance of seamless IP integration, enhanced
commissioning tools, and continuous product innovation—all key strengths of Synapsys Solutions.
