Energy saving potential with smarter lighting solutions

Posted on: October 20th, 2022 by Tom No Comments

In the UK approximately 20% of the energy consumed in buildings is used on the lighting, switching to an LED lighting system which is properly controlled will vastly lower that figure and help drive the UK’s goal to be Net Zero by 2050.

Energy-efficient lighting technology has seen major advances in recent years, with LEDs in particular now able to offer significant energy and maintenance savings across a range of applications. However LED fixtures alone are only part of the solution. In the rush to install new technology we must no forget that if we want to drive the highest possible energy savings whilst creating comfortable, effective and responsive environments, we have to control it and control it correctly.

Learn more about how our LiGO Smart Lighting Controls are enabling real energy savings in buildings across the UK by requesting our Energy Saving Potential information sheet here or call us on 01444 246 128.

Celebrating our coming of age this October

Posted on: October 5th, 2022 by Tom No Comments

Synapsys are pleased to be celebrating coming of age this October with our 21st anniversary, which also nicely coincides with us becoming an Employee owned Business.

Harvey Roft and Andy Devine founded Synapsys Solutions in 2001 and we’ve come a long way from our early beginnings in Hurstpierpoint.

From our initial SIP interfacing products to OEM controls and developing energy dashboards. A move to our own premises in Burgess hill and our recent hardware advancements SIP+, SIP2, SIPslice, through to our LiGO lighting controls and energy and billing software platforms, we’ve always had the same mission – to develop and supply innovative hardware and software solutions to the intelligent building control industry.

Moving into our 21st year marks huge changes at Synapsys. We announced that on the 14th September 2022 Synapsys Solutions became an employee-owned business run through an employee ownership trust (EOT).

This decision was driven by the desire to continue the company’s independence, product innovation, choice for our customers and recognition of the fact that Synapsys Solutions has been built upon the hard work and commitment of its employees over the past 21 years.

Harvey Roft said “The past 21 years have seen us build Synapsys from its humble beginnings to a trusted partner and supplier for all our customers. From a small product offering to the full range of hardware and software solutions that we provide today our company has continued to innovate while maintaining its values, culture and ethos”.

“We believe the people best able to continue this and take the company on to the next level, are those who work within it, who helped to build it and continue to make it grow”.

We hope you will celebrate our 21st year with us and we look forward to continuing to work with you as we take Synapsys Solutions into its new era of ownership and development.

Synapsys Solutions begins a new exciting era

Posted on: September 22nd, 2022 by Tom No Comments

Last week marked the beginning of a new and exciting future for Synapsys Solutions. As of the 14th September 2022 Synapsys Solutions transitioned to an employee-owned business run through an employee ownership trust (EOT).This new ownership model sets the groundwork for a new chapter in the future of our company.

So why did we make this decision?

Long-term continuity for Synapsys Solutions

In 2001, Harvey Roft and Andy Devine founded Synapsys Solutions to develop and supply innovative hardware and software solutions to the intelligent building control industry.

By incorporating the latest technologies, putting focus on customer needs and supporting customers from initial purchase through to project sign-off; they have created a business that approaches product and software sales very differently from our competitors.

The decision to become an employee owned business was driven by the desire to continue the company’s independence, product innovation, choice for our customers and recognition of the fact that Synapsys Solutions has been built upon the hard work and commitment of its employees.

Harvey Roft said “By transitioning ownership of the business to its employees Synapsys has secured the future of the business, continuing its values, culture and ethos. I believe the people best able to run and own Synapsys Solutions, are those who work within it, who helped to build it and continue to make it grow”.

What does this means for our customers, partners and suppliers?

For our customers — the new EOT structure ensures that you will continue to receive the same innovative products, services and support that you have come to expect from working with Synapsys Solutions, today and into the future.

For our partners and suppliers— It provides assurance that the relationships and trust which we have built up over many years with our partners and suppliers will continue long into the future.

Our Management team going forward

Sales and Service Director Andy Thorn has joined the company board and will work with the newly appointed Trustees to ensure Synapsys Solutions continues to grow and operate for the benefit of all Synapsys employees. Andy Devine will continue as a board member and Harvey Roft will be retiring in March 2023, but will continue to be a Trustee member and part of the management team during a period of transition.

We look forward to continuing to work with you as we take Synapsys Solutions into its new era of ownership and development.

If you have any questions please email us, give us a call or speak with your local sales representative.

Data Analytics

Posted on: November 22nd, 2021 by Tom No Comments

Data Analytics has long been used in the financial, retail and manufacturing sectors to help identify areas in which productivity can be maximised. More recently Data Analytics has started to be applied to the built environment with the thought that the process will identifying areas in which buildings can operate more efficiently.

Synapsys Solutions has a long history of providing data for companies operating various analytics platforms and is uniquely positioned to understand what makes a successful analytics process. It’s not just about crunching numbers.

So what is Data Analytics?
It is the mathematical (statistical) analysis of data to provide causal correlations (insights) that could typically not be made otherwise.

What does data analytics require?
• A High Volume of accurate and well described data.
• Appropriate engines and algorithms to analyse the data.

Where is analytics used?
It is certainly not a new invention, and is widely used in the financial, retail, production sectors. e.g. the data analysis of Tesco’s Club card data in the early 90’s giving them customer insight and eventually market dominance.

Why is analytics used?
To give insights into how productivity can be maximised e.g.. increasing financial or retail business, optimising complex manufacturing processes, increasing specific yields from chemical processes or fractionation.

Importantly – It is the actions borne out of analytics that give results

However it would be fair to say that DA has not been taken up within the built environment as well as expected, to understand why take a look at our Data Analytics basics information sheet.

If you would like to know more about Data Analytics, our products or to discuss a project please contact us on 01444 246128 or drop us an email to enquiries@synapsys-solutions.com

Net Zero

Posted on: November 3rd, 2021 by Tom No Comments

COP26 is currently taking place in Glasgow with the ambition of uniting the world to tackle climate change. The number one goal of the COP26 conference is to secure global net zero by mid-century and keep the 1.5 degrees target within reach. But what does this mean?, what are the impacts and how can we help achieve this at a building level?

What is Net Zero?

The term net zero essentially means achieving a balance between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere and the carbon removed from it. This balance will happen when the amount of carbon we add to the atmosphere is no more than the amount removed from it.

For the UK to achieve Net Zero by 2050, emissions from a huge range of sectors including the built environment must be reduced and ensure the control of the amount of carbon (carbon footprint) they produce into the atmosphere.

Why is there a push to Net Zero?

The push for Net Zero is driven by a number of factors, the most important being to prevent a critical rise of 1.5°C to protect the environment for future generations. Organisations need to comply with legislation and meet Scope 3 obligations – i.e. a Carbon Neutral Supply Chain.

It also has benefits outside of just reducing emissions. Overall business operational costs can be lowered through reduced consumption as well as meeting the expectations of your current and future workforce with a drive for people to work for an environmentally conscious employer.

Want to know more?

To learn more about Net Zero, what needs to be done to achieve it and also how Synapsys can help, download our information sheet here.

If you would like to discuss this or our solutions in more detail please give us a call on 01444 246128, drop us an email or alternatively contact your local sales account manager.

DALI2 What does it mean for you?

Posted on: October 27th, 2021 by Tom No Comments

DALI2 is the latest standard of DALI. Offering improved interoperability between different manufacturers devices via mandatory compliance testing and certification all with backward compatibility to DALI.

Our LiGO technology has always been ahead of the curve offering our customers a range of flexible features and class leading benefits. Now with the advent of DALI2 it has enabled us to open up more of our technologies potential, including:

Energy functionality
Values for Apparent power/energy and Active power/energy are available for the first time from within the lighting ballast (please check with ballast manufacturer as this is not a feature present in all ballasts). This in turn gives the ability to pass this data through LiGO enabling lighting energy to be easily and more accurately monitored than ever before. It also enables the

Interoperability
With the new DALI2 Standard DALI manufacturers of input devices, such as sensors, scene plates, switches and other devices no longer use features that are proprietary to their own systems. This standardisation means its easier than ever to incorporate different manufacturers products into your lighting scheme.

LiGO has always been exceptionally flexible, working with Blue-chip manufacturers on incorporating a range of input devices, such as sensors, scene plates, and DALI accessories. With DALI2 the range of choice is now wider than ever, with devices ranging in suitability from commercial to high end architectural wall plates giving you freedom of choice and negating the need for alternative comm’s bus.

Additional functionality
DALI2 extends the already feature rich command set that came with DALI, such as extended fade times and more flexible grouping. LiGO has always been bursting at the seams with features brought from our deep history in commercial building controls, many ideas and features are now available as part of the DALI2 standard. For instance hours run of a ballast can now be read from the device, this has been available from LiGO since its conception. New features such as the number of lamp starts could be used in determining tuning of lighting areas, as an example LED’s degrade when switched off/started, something that you don’t want with your expensive LED real estate.

Download our DALI2 information sheet here.
