2016 Budget sees streamlining of carbon taxes

This month’s Budget was a mixed bag – as always. While it failed to deliver the hoped-for support for improving energy efficiency in SMEs, the Chancellor did announce that the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) would be wound down as part of a move to streamline carbon taxes.

Delivering his eighth Budget announcement, the Chancellor also provided some positive news on carbon reporting regulations and the next Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, and also confirmed new funding for energy storage and demand-side response technologies.
